Have You Ever Heard of Kattukodi (Cocculus Hirsutus)



Kattukodi is a creeper plant that grows densely. It is widely available in Tropical regions of Southern Asia mainly in India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and also few tropical regions in Africa. The scientific name of this plant is Cocculus Hirsutus. The parts of this plant are used for preparing medicines in Ayurveda, Siddha, homeopathy, etc. The fruit of this plant is purple in color. Let's see some of the uses of these plants that can be prepared at home.

1. Take 4 to 5 Kattukodi fruit. Soak it in the water for around half an hour. Smash the soaked fruit till the fruit reaches a jelly form. Apply the jell on the bulged area or areas with rashes or even boil to get cured.

2. The jell can also be applied to the areas near the eyes for dark circles removal and also even for cooling. It helps in reducing itchiness, irritation, and redness of eyes mainly caused during madras eye.    

3. Take 10 ml of boiled milk, to which add 3 smashed leaves of Kattukodi. Slightly boil and mix well. Drink to get control white discharge, body temperature (heat), and to get relief from any kidney problem.

4. Smash some Kattukodi roots and mix it well in some boiling milk. Drink the mixture to get relief from joint problems.

5. To 200 ml of water taken in a pan add 5 to 6 leaves of Kattukodi. Boil the mixture for 5 minutes. Filter the mixture and drink the decoction obtained. This helps in increasing the appetite. It also provides relief from over menstruation or bleeding problems. The decoction can be mixed with sugar to obtain a good taste.

6. For people with diabetics problem can also consume this decoction to control their diabetics. Just avoid the use of sugar.  This can also help in the control of blood pressure.
